WOMEN4CIVIC CHANGE THROUGH ART – 2023
Introduction
Art is a tool that can be used in communities to communicate about the different challenges faced by a community or celebrate their wins, offer solutions and also preserve their culture.
Uganda is one of the countries with the youngest population in the world; the youth comprising 70% of the population, the majority being female.
Through women empowerment, we believe the young and emerging female artists can be at the forefront of causing civic change through art.
Concept
Women 4 Civic change through art program aims at having young and emerging female artists at the forefront of addressing civic issues affecting their communities through art with the goal of creating change.
Civic engagement encompasses the many ways that young female artists may get involved in their communities to consider and address civic issues. Civic engagement can be a measure or a means of social change. In arts-based civic engagement, the creative process and resulting art work/experience can provide a key focus, catalyst, or space for civic participation, whether it is becoming better informed or actively contributing to the improvement of one’s neighborhood, community, and nation.
